Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar lauded the voter list revision initiative in Bihar, terming it a 'purification' drive that stands as a milestone in Indian democracy’s evolution.

Speaking during IIT-Kanpur’s foundation day, Kumar remarked on the historic significance of revising the world’s largest voter list, highlighting plans to extend similar efforts to 51 crore voters across 12 states. This nationwide effort will extensively enhance the voting system’s integrity.

The initiative, scheduled from November to February, precedes assembly elections in 2026. Gyanesh Kumar, receiving a Distinguished Alumnus award from IIT-K, attributed his career success to the core values developed during his time at the institute.
