The Uttarakhand High Court recently addressed a unique case involving a widow's claim for a compassionate job appointment, which was denied due to a service record discrepancy. Her late husband had registered his mother-in-law as his nominee instead of his wife.
The widow contested the Forest Department's decision by filing a petition with the High Court, which was presided over by Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari. The court acknowledged that a partial release of the General Provident Fund (GPF) to the widow validated her recognition as the employee's spouse.
The court ordered the Forest Department to reassess the widow's claim for the job within three months, in line with legal guidelines. The state had initially pointed out the couple's strained relationship and a prior maintenance case filed by the widow as reasons for the nomination choice.
