Corruption Crackdown: Deputy Tahsildar Sentenced in Bribery Case

The Vigilance Court has handed a seven-year prison term to a Deputy Tahsildar implicated in a bribery scandal, a development confirmed by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB). This decision marks a significant move in the fight against corruption within local governance.

Presiding over the case, Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) KV Rajaneesh rendered the sentence to Bijumon PK, formerly a Village Officer at Kidangoor, now a Deputy Tahsildar at the Land Acquisition Office in Pala. Bijumon was apprehended in 2015 by the Kottayam Vigilance Unit while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 and a bottle of liquor to expedite a land mutation process.

Following a thorough investigation, charges were filed, leading to Bijumon's conviction. Public Prosecutor K K Sreekanth represented the Vigilance, ensuring justice was served. The convicted officer has commenced his sentence at Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail, marking the conclusion of this high-profile case.
