The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has launched a critical effort to scrutinize and eliminate potential duplicate names from voter lists in preparation for the upcoming local body elections.
These lists, initially compiled by the Election Commission of India for Assembly elections, remain unaltered in terms of original names and addresses for local self-government bodies. Detected duplicates are marked with a double asterisk, signaling the need for local verification to ascertain individuality.
Voters flagged for duplication must verify their details and designate a specific polling station where they wish to cast their vote. Failure to respond requires voters to provide a written undertaking at the polling station, followed by rigorous identity checks, ensuring only one vote per person.
