In a significant crackdown on educational fraud, law enforcement authorities on Tuesday apprehended five individuals responsible for producing counterfeit degree certificates and marksheets. The arrests followed the recovery of 240 fraudulent documents, alongside four laptops, nine mobile phones, a car, and Rs 10,500 in cash.

The police operation was instigated by a complaint from Ashwani Kumar, who claimed he was deceived to the tune of Rs 70,000 by the gang, which promised him a forged mark sheet and subsequently issued threats. The gang, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Vyom Bindal, was led by individuals including Riku Kumar and Parvat Kumar.

Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted sourcing the bogus documents from various locations including Lucknow, Delhi, Meerut, Nagaland, and Uttarakhand, charging clients between Rs 30,000 and Rs 4.5 lakh. Police have registered a case and ongoing investigations aim to thoroughly dismantle the network.
