The U.S. State Department has appointed Steven Fagin, ambassador to Yemen, as the civilian lead for a new center in Gaza focused on implementing a peace deal and delivering humanitarian aid. The U.S. State Department announced the appointment of Steven Fagin, the current ambassador to Yemen, as the civilian lead at a new center dedicated to enforcing a peace deal in Gaza and facilitating humanitarian assistance. This strategic move comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to the Civil-Military Coordination Center in southern Israel, where he committed to an increased U.S. diplomatic presence alongside the existing 200 military personnel.
"Ambassador Steven Fagin will lead the Civil-Military Coordination Center, which is tasked with supporting the President’s 20 Point Peace Plan for Gaza," stated the department. The center was inaugurated by the U.S. Central Command, with Lieutenant General Patrick Frank as its military lead.
Fagin has been serving as the ambassador to Yemen since 2022, albeit from outside Yemen due to the Houthi-controlled government's lack of recognition from Washington.
