In a comprehensive review of India's defence posture and the Indian Army's operational preparedness, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh presided over the Army Commanders' Conference in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan on October 24, 2025. The visit included high-level deliberations with the military's top brass and a forward-area tour of Tanot and Laungewala, underscoring India's strategic readiness along the western frontier and its commitment to modernization, self-reliance, and integrated warfare.

Senior Leadership in Full Attendance

The conference witnessed the presence of India's senior-most defence leadership, including:

  • Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan

  • Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi

  • Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh

  • Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lt. Gen. Pushpendra Singh

  • All Army Commanders of India's operational and administrative formations

The sessions focused on key issues affecting national security and future warfighting strategy, particularly the evolving dimensions of Grey Zone Warfare, which encompasses hybrid threats such as cyber attacks, disinformation campaigns, and irregular warfare.

Operation Sindoor: A New Chapter in India's Military Doctrine

In a significant address, Raksha Mantri described Operation Sindoor as a landmark in India's military and strategic history. Calling it a demonstration of India's military prowess, he emphasized that the operation reflected not only battlefield excellence but also the ethical and disciplined character of India's armed forces.

"Operation Sindoor will go down in history not just as a military operation but as a symbol of the nation's courage, clarity, and restraint," he said.

He noted that the operation's precision and dignity in dealing with terrorism signaled New India's Defence Doctrine — a doctrine built on strategic autonomy, swift retaliation, and principled action. While the operation is ongoing, Shri Singh declared that India's mission for peace will persist until the last remnants of terrorist mindsets are eliminated.

A Call for Constant Vigilance and Modernization

Urging soldiers and commanders never to let their guard down, the Raksha Mantri stated that adversaries must never be underestimated, and readiness must be sustained around the clock. He reaffirmed the government's full commitment to equipping the forces with state-of-the-art infrastructure and technology, while recognizing that soldiers are the true assets of India's defence establishment.

Shri Singh called for continued emphasis on:

  • Defence diplomacy

  • Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance)

  • Information Warfare

  • Force Modernisation

  • Infrastructure development for a future-ready Indian Army

He also stressed the importance of integrating human willpower with technological superiority in the age of cyber warfare, space operations, and electronic disruption.

Recognizing Army's Role in Jammu & Kashmir

Addressing the situation in Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Rajnath Singh commended the Army's pivotal role in maintaining peace and security post the abrogation of Article 370. He highlighted how the valley has transitioned from unrest to a zone of hope and opportunity, with governance now increasingly reflecting local empowerment and democratic participation.

"Today, the streets there are filled with hope, not turmoil," he remarked.

Border Security and Foreign Policy

On the sensitive Northern border, the Raksha Mantri remarked that the ongoing de-escalation efforts reflect India's balanced foreign policy approach—one that keeps diplomatic channels open while ensuring robust military readiness. He reiterated that while dialogue remains essential, India will not compromise on vigilance or territorial sovereignty.

Inaugurations and Technological Advances

During the visit, Shri Singh inaugurated several cutting-edge initiatives aimed at strengthening operational capabilities and veteran welfare:

  • Edge Data Centres for Konark and Fire & Fury Corps, with plans for nationwide expansion

  • Sainik Yatri Mitra App to assist travelling soldiers and veterans

  • Equipment Helpline for rapid logistics and support

  • 'Defence Millet Dishes Compendium' by ASC Centre & College, Bengaluru

  • 'Naman Centres' to facilitate services for veterans and Next-of-Kin (NOK)

These launches reflect the government's comprehensive approach toward both front-line soldiers and the extended military community.

Paying Homage at Laungewala: Legacy of Bravery

At the historic Laungewala Yudh Sthal, Shri Rajnath Singh laid a wreath in honour of the 1971 war heroes and paid homage to the legendary valour displayed during the Battle of Laungewala. He inaugurated the 'Chandpuri Hall', an audio-visual memorial dedicated to Major (later Brigadier) Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, who led the gallant defence during the battle.

Veterans who participated in the iconic battle were also felicitated by the Raksha Mantri in a solemn tribute to their service.

Showcasing Integrated Modern Warfare Capabilities

The visit concluded with a powerful Capability Demonstration Exercise, where the Indian Army showcased its new organisational structures like the Bhairav Battalion and Ashni Platoon—units tailored for multi-domain operations. The exercise highlighted India's push towards jointness, innovation, and technological integration in warfare.

These formations demonstrated next-generation combat strategies using AI-driven tools, surveillance platforms, and precision weaponry, reflecting the seamless fusion of India's military heritage with its drive for modernity.

Looking Ahead: A Future-Ready Force

With the combination of forward area visits, high-level deliberations, and technology inaugurations, Shri Rajnath Singh's presence in Jaisalmer reinforced the message that India's defence preparedness is rooted in both tradition and transformation.

The event stood as a reaffirmation of India's commitment to peace through strength, innovation, and an unwavering belief in the soldier as the cornerstone of national security.
