A Russian court has released French cyclist Sofiane Sehili, who was charged with illegally crossing the Russian border, according to state news agency RIA. The court, situated in Russia's Far East, waived a 50,000 penalty that Sehill faced.
Sehili, a self-described 'ultra-endurance racer and adventure cyclist,' had been detained after attempting to cross the Russian border from China, as reported by French newspaper Le Monde in September. His objective was to break the world record for the fastest cycle crossing of the Eurasian landmass, spanning from Lisbon to Vladivostok.
The French athlete's legal troubles arose during his quest to achieve this remarkable feat, a journey that has now been interrupted by legal proceedings.
