The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) chairperson Neikhozo Suokhrie and deputy chairperson Khrielievi Chusi continue in their roles after no-confidence motions against them failed. The meeting, aimed at discussing their removal, was dissolved due to insufficient attendance, as confirmed by officials.
Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem revealed that only six elected members were present at the meeting, falling short of the quorum needed under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023. As a result, the no-confidence motion was rendered null and void, allowing Suokhrie and Chusi to maintain their leadership positions.
This development underscores emerging rifts within the council, despite a strong NDPP presence. Though NDPP merged with NPF, formalities regarding KMC positions remain incomplete. Suokhrie reassured cooperation among councillors for the city's welfare, following recent elections after two decades.
