A 25-year-old man absconding in a shooting incident in Delhi's Ashok Vihar was captured after being tricked into a meeting via social media, the police announced on Wednesday.
The April 2 incident involved gunfire directed at a man named Pradeep and a physical attack on his niece perpetrated by an individual using a pistol butt. Rahul Matad was part of the implicated group and subsequently disappeared, becoming a proclaimed offender. A female police officer initiated contact through her social media account, engaging Matad in conversation over a month before arranging a meeting that led to his arrest. Matad, previously implicated in a 2019 murder case, was nabbed in the Wazirpur Industrial Area.
The case arose from a report filed by Mishika, who detailed witnessing an early morning assault by four men against her uncle Pradeep, stemming from a personal altercation. Dinesh, one of the accused, allegedly struck Mishika before firing at Pradeep. Only Matad evaded earlier arrests until apprehended recently.
