In a sweeping crackdown, law enforcement agencies in Mizoram have apprehended 71 individuals, among them 15 foreigners, in connection with drug smuggling. The move forms part of an intensive campaign launched by Mizoram Police on September 1, with key support from the Excise and Narcotics Department and the Young Mizo Association.
The operation, which is scheduled to continue until December, aims to dismantle drug smuggling networks within the state. According to Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) H Ramthlengliana, this initiative has already begun to stem the flow of illegal narcotics into Mizoram.
“The operation has yielded positive results,” stated Ramthlengliana, noting a significant reduction in drug supply. This has driven up the price of 13-14 gm of heroin from Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000. During the raids, authorities confiscated drugs worth Rs 16.10 crore, marking a substantial disruption to narcotic trade in the region.
