In a shocking turn of events, Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah, an instructor with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) at Old Dominion University, was killed in a deadly shooting on campus in Norfolk, Virginia. The incident occurred inside a classroom at Constant Hall, prompting a swift and large-scale police response, with students and staff ordered to shelter in place, reports WTKR News.

The suspect, identified as Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, has a troubled past, having been previously convicted in a terrorism-related case involving efforts to support the Islamic State. Authorities revealed that Jalloh opened fire during an ROTC session, resulting in Shah's death and injuring two cadets, one critically, before being subdued by law enforcement.

Lt. Col. Shah was a respected Army officer with a decorated career, including deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He had returned to his alma mater, Old Dominion University, to lead the ROTC program. Amid the tragedy, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger paid tribute, emphasizing Shah's dedication and leadership, as the university community grieves his loss.
