In a recent interview with CBS News's 60 Minutes, former US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that his tariff policy prevented a nuclear escalation between India and Pakistan in May 2025. Trump stated that economic threats were instrumental in urging both South Asian countries to the negotiating table.
Trump highlighted that he warned India and Pakistan they risked losing US trade access if they failed to de-escalate tensions. According to the former President, the economic pressure helped avert a war, though India has consistently refuted these claims, emphasizing a bilateral ceasefire achieved independently.
Furthermore, Trump boasted about his role in resolving several international disputes, citing conflicts between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, among others. He credited his approach of using economic leverage and negotiations for achieving these diplomatic successes.
