India-US Energy Partnership: Expanding Horizons

In a strategic dialogue, India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, engaged with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright to explore collaborative energy avenues between the nations. Their meeting, held at India House, underscored the significant bilateral energy partnership and potential areas of cooperation, including civil nuclear projects and coal gasification.

The US has signaled its eagerness to collaborate on civil nuclear initiatives and increase exports of LPG to India. As trade negotiations continue, India has enhanced its energy imports from Washington, emerging as the largest global buyer of US coal, acquiring 20 million tonnes in FY25.

A recent milestone in the partnership was marked by GAIL (India) Limited, which launched an LNG vessel from a US terminal, reflecting a commitment to cleaner fuel sources. This development is part of GAIL’s strategy to bolster its global LNG shipping capabilities, outlined during the vessel's departure from the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal.
