Canada Greenlights $4 Billion Enbridge Pipeline Expansion

Canada has given the go-ahead to a $4 billion expansion of Enbridge's Westcoast pipeline system in British Columbia, promising to increase the network's capacity by approximately 300 million cubic feet per day. Enbridge disclosed this development on Friday.

Under the Sunrise Expansion Program, the project is expected to infuse over $3 billion into the Canadian economy while employing around 2,500 workers from local and indigenous communities. The expansion involves the construction of new pipeline segments, the addition of natural gas compression capacity, and upgrading existing infrastructures.

The expansion marks significant economic and employment prospects with construction set to start in July 2026 and a completion date aimed for late 2028. Previously, Enbridge sold a 12.5% stake in the pipeline to the Stonlasec8 Indigenous Alliance, marking the first instance of a resource project sale funded through a new federal loan program.
