Road Block Controversy in Argentina: Copper Megaproject Faces Uncertainty
Police in Argentina's La Rioja province blocked access to a road leading to a copper megaproject in San Juan province due to a judicial order. Despite this, Vicuna Corp reports normal operations. The company has not yet received formal notification of any judicial order from the authorities.
In La Rioja province of Argentina, police have blocked access to a road leading to a significant copper megaproject in the neighboring San Juan province. The action was reportedly based on a judicial order, according to a representative from Vicuna Corp.
Vicuna Corp, which is under the ownership of Australia's BHP and Canada's Lundin Mining, indicated that despite the blockage, the company had not been officially notified of any such judicial order, and operations at the site continue normally.
"The police of La Rioja blocked the road, citing a court order. However, they have not shown it to us, nor have we been notified by the justice system. We are therefore maintaining our usual operations, rerouting through San Juan instead of La Rioja," explained a spokesperson for Vicuna.
