Jenab Chandel, the Chief of the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress, has openly criticized the BJP for its approach towards women's reservation, asserting that the Congress has consistently supported and advocated for such measures. Chandel accused the BJP of misleading the public and unfairly blaming the opposition for issues related to the Women's Reservation Bill.

She highlighted Congress's history of empowering women, pointing to the implementation of 33 percent reservation in Panchayati Raj institutions, which was later increased to 50 percent. Chandel questioned the government's delay in applying the 2011 Census for delimitation and women's reservation, asking why it wasn't implemented before the 2024 elections, suggesting it highlights dubious intentions.

Chandel affirmed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has long advocated for marginalized groups, including women, ensuring they are not deprived of their rights. She responded to concerns about the lack of women presidents in party units by affirming ongoing representation efforts. Chandel argued that internal debates in Congress reflect healthy democracy, contrasting this with the BJP's alleged intolerance of dissent.

Highlighting Congress’s historic support for women in leadership roles, exemplified by leaders like Indira Gandhi, Chandel emphasized the party's commitment to key issues such as drug abuse and its inclusive governance approach. She reiterated her criticism of the BJP's attitude towards women, alleging a regressive mindset, following the failure of the BJP-led government to pass an amendment bill in the Lok Sabha.
