In a significant move, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (PMGSY-III) until March 2028. This program focuses on enhancing rural connectivity through consolidation of major rural routes and links that connect habitations to key institutions.

The revised budget for the scheme is set at Rs 83,977 crore, up from the previous Rs 80,250 crore, reflecting the government's commitment to improving rural infrastructure. The extension involves the completion of roads and bridges in plain and hilly regions by specific deadlines, with particular attention to Long Span Bridges that have yet to receive sanction.

The initiative is poised to catalyze socio-economic progress by improving market access for agricultural and non-farm goods, streamlining transportation, and fostering new employment opportunities. This development aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, aiming to diminish the rural-urban divide and spur sustainable growth.
