In a surprising move, Japan's Inpex has paused a pivotal vote on an employment agreement for workers at Australia's Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. The Offshore Alliance union reported the cancellation in a social media post on Friday.
The vote was originally scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m. on Friday (0800 GMT). However, it was abruptly called off late on Thursday, leaving workers and union representatives in uncertainty.
As a result, employees at the Ichthys facility are now set to vote next week on whether to embark on strike action, marking a significant development in the ongoing negotiations.
