At a recent event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh shared India's ambitious plan to transform its navy into the world's most formidable maritime force by 2047. Speaking at the Veer Sainik Samman in Thiruvananthapuram, he highlighted the strides being made in the global shipbuilding industry with modern and ancient Indian maritime techniques.
Singh pointed out India's progress, noting the country is one of the few globally with the capability to complete an indigenously built aircraft carrier in Cochin. The defence strategy has evolved from reliance on imports to becoming a prominent military equipment exporter, with exports reaching ₹38,500 crore, up from approximately ₹600 crore in 2014. Singh aims for exports to hit ₹3 lakh crore by 2029.
Addressing concerns about the Middle East crisis, Singh assured the public that the Indian government is fully equipped to handle the situation. He emphasized there were no shortages of petrol or diesel and confirmed the Indian Navy's active role in evacuations and safeguarding citizens. The Minister dispelled rumors and affirmed the government's vigilance over the situation, especially concerning Indians in the region.
