Spain's Energy Minister, Sara Aagesen, has called for transparency from power companies concerning the massive blackout that struck Spain and Portugal in April. Addressing a Senate committee hearing, Aagesen urged companies to disclose all pertinent information to facilitate an in-depth investigation into the power outage affecting large parts of the Iberian Peninsula.

The power outage on April 28 lasted up to 16 hours, prompting inquiries by government and grid operators. Though preliminary reports indicate a voltage surge, no definitive party has been blamed, with company-provided information remaining anonymous. Aagesen emphasized that preventive regulatory and technical measures were in place, suggesting the blackout shouldn’t have happened.

Aagesen assured that Spain's power grid is now better equipped to handle similar incidents. She underscored that the country can seamlessly continue its transition to renewable energy without fear of another major blackout.
