Vatican Calls for Ethical Disinvestment from Mining Sector
The Vatican has initiated an international project urging disinvestment from the mining sector, aiming to push companies towards just labor practices and environmental protection. This move seeks to address the social tensions and environmental harm caused by mining, aligning with faith values and human dignity.
The Vatican announced an ambitious international initiative on Friday, calling for disinvestment from the mining sector, marking a notable deviation from its usual investment advice.
Supported by senior Church officials and approximately 40 faith-based organizations, the project urges mining companies to adopt fair trade practices and better environmental stewardship, under threat of losing investments.
This initiative follows Pope Francis' appeals for improved business conduct in mining, reflecting a broader ethical stance against industries with detrimental social and environmental impacts.
