Vietnam is advancing its timeline for adopting ethanol-blended gasoline to fight fossil fuel reliance as global energy supplies face disruptions due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. According to a government document released Friday, the move is part of the country’s broader strategy to bolster energy security.

The directive, signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, mandates the use of E10 gasoline, a blend containing 10% bioethanol, starting next month, moving up from an initial target of June 1. The decision comes amid skyrocketing fuel prices in Vietnam, triggered by the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, with gasoline and diesel prices witnessing hikes of 50% and 70%, respectively.

Additionally, the directive calls for introducing incentives for electric vehicle production, expanding renewable energy, and phasing out incandescent light bulbs by 2026, as part of a broader push for sustainable energy solutions.
