Security Forces Crack Down in Manipur: Arrests Surge Amid Stability

Security forces and Manipur Police ramped up operations across the state, arresting insurgents, extortionists, and drug traffickers, and seizing narcotics and arms. The law-and-order situation remained calm in 24 hours, despite heightened enforcement and public caution against fake news on social media.

Security forces and Manipur Police have intensified search and enforcement operations throughout the state, leading to multiple arrests of insurgent cadres, extortionists, and drug traffickers. Significant seizures of narcotics, arms, and vehicles were made, yet the overall law-and-order situation remained stable over the past 24 hours.

On March 17, security forces apprehended Thoudam JingkoSingh, alias Sanathoi, an active cadre of PREPAK, in Thoubal district. Seized from him were two live rounds of 7.62x39 mm, a mobile phone, and a Honda Activa. A day later, an extortionist and KCP active woman cadre, Thokchom Devarani Devi, was arrested in Imphal East district with a mobile phone.

Further arrests included another KCP member, Moirangthem Jiten Singh, in the same district, and multiple individuals were caught with narcotics and vehicles in various operations. For instance, in Bishnupur district, one was arrested with an auto-rickshaw, 1.5 Kgs of opium, and a mobile phone, while another was found with an Alto car and 271 grams of Heroin no. 4.

In a separate incident, Laishram Kunjomani Singh was arrested with over 56,000 SP tablets and a mobile phone. Authorities have ensured the safe passage of vehicles along NH-37 under strict security measures.

A total of 114 checkpoints were set up statewide with no detentions reported. Manipur Police urged citizens to be cautious of misleading social media content and warned against the circulation of fake news, emphasizing that legal actions will follow if looted arms and explosives are not returned promptly.
