Delhi's Power Surge: Summer Demand Expected to Soar
This summer, Delhi is anticipated to experience a significant increase in electricity demand, potentially exceeding 9,000 MW. Last year, the peak demand was 8,442 MW. South and West Delhi may hit 3,997 MW, while East and Central Delhi may reach 1,991 MW. By 2028-29, demand could surpass 10,000 MW.

Delhi is gearing up for a substantial rise in electricity demand this summer, with expectations set for peak levels to cross the 9,000 MW mark, according to officials.
The State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) reported that last year's peak was 8,442 MW. BSES predicts the BRPL discom areas of South and West Delhi, which saw a demand of 3,798 MW last summer, to potentially reach 3,997 MW this year.
Simultaneously, the BYPL discom in East and Central Delhi could see peaks rise from last summer's 1,824 MW to 1,991 MW. Notably, Delhi first breached the 7,000 MW threshold in 2018, and recent trends suggest demand might climb beyond 10,000 MW by 2028-2029, subject to weather and demand growth dynamics.
