Amid growing concerns over cooking gas shortages, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed state refineries to focus on meeting local demand. The move aims to ensure households and essential services are prioritized.

During a meeting in Alipore with representatives from the oil and gas sector, Banerjee stressed the urgency of addressing public panic, noting that normal gas cylinder bookings have surged dramatically due to fears of prolonged waiting periods for refills.

She called for immediate restoration of gas companies' servers and emphasized curbing hoarding and black marketing, warning of stringent actions against such practices. District-level monitoring and a comprehensive review with relevant departments are set to enhance supply management.
