Kanyakumari Lok Sabha MP Vijay Vasanth has appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for immediate action to ensure the safety and return of Indian fishermen currently stranded in Iran. The fishermen, many hailing from Vasanth's Kanniyakumari constituency, find themselves stuck on Qeshm Island, Salakh, due to the escalating conflict between the US and Iran.
In a formal letter to the minister, Vasanth stressed the urgent need for intervention, as these fishermen initially traveled to Iran for employment in the fishing sector. However, the ongoing geopolitical tensions have posed severe safety risks, jeopardizing their livelihoods. They have requested swift assistance to facilitate their repatriation to India.
S Jaishankar previously engaged in a detailed discussion with Iran's Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, concerning the escalated conflict. This dialogue marks the third exchange since the US-Israel offensive in Iran, which has resulted in significant casualties and strained international relations.
