IEA Proposes Historic Oil Reserve Release Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The International Energy Agency proposes the largest release of oil reserves in history to stabilize prices affected by the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict. This move exceeds the 2022 release levels during the Russia-Ukraine war. The proposal will be finalized if no member country objects during the upcoming meeting.
The International Energy Agency has proposed an unprecedented release of oil reserves to bring down soaring crude prices driven by the U.S.-Israel conflict involving Iran, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
This release would surpass the 182 million barrels released in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. An extraordinary meeting of IEA member states is set for Tuesday, with a decision expected on Wednesday, contingent on unanimous consent.
Following the report, U.S. crude and Brent crude futures dropped. The IEA and the White House have not commented. As President Trump anticipates a resolution to the Middle East conflict, G7 energy ministers await the IEA's assessment before releasing strategic reserves.
