French President Emmanuel Macron is set to host a discussion with G7 leaders regarding the escalating Iran crisis and the resultant surge in energy prices, according to the French presidency. This meeting comes at a crucial moment as the G7 deliberates over potential responses to soaring oil costs ignited by the conflict between the U.S. and Israel in Iran.

On Tuesday, G7 energy ministers refrained from committing to a release of strategic oil reserves, opting instead for an assessment by the International Energy Agency before any decisive action. While benchmark oil prices hit nearly four-year highs earlier in the week, they dramatically fell by 11% on Tuesday following U.S. President Donald Trump's prediction of a swift resolution to the Middle East conflict.

The U.S. is exploring measures to ensure the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, including providing naval escorts for commercial vessels and backing insurance to mitigate war risks for tankers. These actions are aimed at calming global markets and securing energy supplies. The G7, led by France this year, includes the U.S., Canada, Japan, Italy, Britain, Germany, and France.
