On Tuesday, experts and global leaders made a compelling case for the United Nations to designate a 'World Day for the Elimination of Child Marriage,' highlighting the troubling reality that a child marriage occurs every three seconds globally.
Speaking alongside the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, child rights activist and lawyer Bhuwan Ribhu stressed the importance of stronger global accountability and law enforcement to eradicate the practice.
The call, supported by international figures including Sierra Leone’s First Lady, comes as India reported a significant decline in child marriage rates, showcasing it as a model for successful intervention.
