Hyderabad to Lead in Green Energy with Carbon Footprint Measurement Initiative

Telangana is taking major steps towards sustainability with plans to measure the carbon footprint in Hyderabad, said Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy on Wednesday. The decision aligns with the state's commitment to green energy as outlined in the Telangana Rising 2047 initiative at the Mumbai Climate Week.

The Telangana Rising 2047 plan aims for net-zero emissions by the year 2047, projecting economic growth to a $1 trillion GSDP by 2034 and further reaching $3 trillion by 2047, a notable 10% of India's targeted $30 trillion GDP. Reddy emphasized the need for deep structural transformation to reach these targets.

Currently, Telangana consumes 17,000 megawatts of energy daily. By 2034, the state's goal is to double this capacity to 34,000-35,000 megawatts, primarily using renewable sources such as solar and wind energy. Reddy aims for 90% of the state's energy to come from green sources, marking a shift away from thermal and other polluting energy forms.
