Arunachal Pradesh Powers Ahead: A New Era of Hydropower
Arunachal Pradesh targets 19 GW hydropower capacity with Rs 1.9 lakh crore investment. Arunachal Pradesh has set an ambitious goal to boost its hydropower capacity, targeting an addition of 19 GW with an investment of Rs 1.9 lakh crore. This marks a strategic move towards large and mega projects.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein informed the Assembly of plans to declare 2025-2035 as the 'Decade of Hydropower', to speed up development in the sector. The state, which holds nearly 40% of India's hydropower potential, aims to contribute significantly to the nation's clean energy objectives.
With central government backing, 13 hydropower projects are being revived, creating numerous local jobs. The projects are structured as joint ventures with central public sector undertakings, enhancing both state revenue and local area development.
