Delhi's Sugamya Sahayak Scheme has benefited over 400 individuals with disabilities this financial year by spending Rs 40 lakh on assistive devices. The Social Welfare Department organized 17 camps in 2025-26, providing motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, and other aids to 435 beneficiaries, aiming to enhance their mobility and independence.
Under the scheme, applicants must have a benchmark disability of 40% or more, as certified by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. With an allocation of Rs 2 crore for the year, the remaining funds will facilitate more camps, reaching additional beneficiaries in the coming months.
The scheme's growing popularity indicates increasing awareness and the vital need for accessible support systems. By prioritizing mobility aids, it seeks to improve access to education, employment, and livelihoods for individuals with disabilities across the city.
