In a significant political gathering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed at the Parliament Annexe Building for the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday. The highlight of the meeting was his felicitation for the recently concluded US-India trade deal, which saw Washington reduce reciprocal tariffs from 25% to 18% in a gesture of 'friendship and respect' towards India.
The meeting drew attendance from eminent political figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bhupender Yadav. AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP M. Thambi Durai and BJP MP Ashok Chavan were also present. The session coincided with ongoing discussions in both parliamentary houses on the 'motion of thanks' to the President's address during the Budget Session.
Parliament proceedings took a contentious turn as Rahul Gandhi's remarks concerning border tensions with China sparked heated exchanges. The Opposition Leader cited an unpublished memoir by former Army Chief General MM Naravane, leading to strong objections from BJP members. Speaker Om Birla urged Gandhi to adhere to parliamentary rules, prohibiting references to the unpublished work, resulting in momentary adjournments of the Lok Sabha.
