The Delhi High Court has taken a strong stance against the poor conditions persisting in 27 industrial areas in Delhi, summoning top government officials to address the issue. The court expressed deep concern over the lack of basic infrastructure like sewage systems and stormwater drains in these zones.
Justices Prathiba M Singh and Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora have mandated the appearance of the Chief Secretary and other officials, stressing the urgency of the situation. Despite a decision in August 2023 targeting redevelopment, clarity remains elusive regarding the responsible agency for sewage and drainage facilities.
The court noted the potential environmental consequences, such as groundwater contamination and untreated water discharge into the Yamuna. Officials are required to meet by November 10 and provide an action plan by November 15, while consultant agencies must report redevelopment progress in a hearing set for November 22, 2025.
