BJP leaders, led by Karnataka Assembly Opposition Leader R Ashoka and MP Tejasvi Surya, took to Lalbagh on Sunday to voice their opposition against the proposed Tunnel Road project under the slogan 'Save Lalbagh, Protect Bengaluru'. Despite not having police permission, the protest drew attention to significant local concerns.
The leaders visited the site at Lalbagh where the tunnel is expected to pass, launching a signature campaign against the infrastructure plan. R Ashok highlighted the importance of community dialogue on the project's potential environmental impact, following Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's comments urging senior leaders to engage with the public.
R Ashoka raised questions regarding the necessary permits for the project, pressing the Horticulture Department for clarity on whether approvals must come from the Central or State Government. He criticized the department for neglect and pushed for correct procedural adherence. Concurrently, MP Tejasvi Surya criticized Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for allegedly prioritizing costly projects over essential public transport initiatives.
