The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) acknowledged ongoing issues in the freshly implemented continuous cheque clearing system, launched to expedite cheque processing times. Despite some initial hurdles, the transition aims to clear cheques within hours rather than days.
Since the launch on October 4, 2025, over 2.56 crore cheques totaling over Rs 3,01,000 crore have been positively cleared, marking significant progress. However, minor technical difficulties have slowed the process for some customers, prompting NPCI to work on solutions to eliminate these setbacks and facilitate same-day cheque clearance.
Established by the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks' Association, NPCI remains steadfast in refining the system. While inconveniences were felt by some, NPCI expressed regret and assured continued efforts towards a seamless cheque clearing experience.
