An alarming outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has emerged among Mithuns in the Kamba circle of Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang district, officials revealed on Wednesday.

The district administration reported the deaths of 18 Mithuns, driving them to ban the transportation and sale of meat products from hooved animals, including pigs, cattle, and sheep. A quarantine post has been set up at Wak village to prevent further spread. Dr. T Kamchi, leading the investigation, emphasized the urgency as FMD can easily transfer between hooved animals.

Additionally, Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases have been confirmed in pigs, posing further challenges to local livestock health. The Animal Husbandry Department, supported by volunteers from the Tani Ao Mithun Farmers' Welfare Society, is actively working on containment and prevention strategies. Quarantine measures will remain enforced until further notice.
