Qatar and U.S. Challenge EU Energy Rules
Qatar and the U.S. have expressed concerns over the EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, fearing it could impact LNG exports. Qatar’s energy minister highlighted potential trade issues with the EU if the directive remains unchanged, threatening to affect Europe's energy supply.
Qatar and the United States have collectively voiced their apprehensions to the European Union about the potential ramifications of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
They claim the directive could detrimentally affect the competitiveness of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. This concern was articulated in a statement from QatarEnergy on Wednesday.
In a recent interview with Reuters, Qatar's energy minister, Saad al-Kaabi, warned that continuing business within the EU could become untenable for Qatar if adjustments are not made to the current sustainability rules, posing a risk to Europe's energy supply security.
