Swami Prasad Maurya, President of the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, ignited discussions on Tuesday with his provocative remarks regarding the practical effects of worshipping Goddess Lakshmi for poverty alleviation. Maurya questioned the traditional belief, highlighting the stark reality of widespread poverty and unemployment in the nation.
He pointed out that if prayers alone were capable of generating wealth, India would not have a staggering 80 crore individuals dependent on subsidised food grains. Maurya emphasized the importance of respecting women who manage households, urging people to honor the 'Ghar ki Lakshmi,' meaning the woman of the house, as a more tangible source of prosperity and harmony.
Clarifying his position to ANI, Maurya stated his comments were not intended as an attack on religious practices but as a rational appeal to address economic disparities. During the Diwali festival, when traditions primarily focus on rituals for prosperity, his remarks encouraged a broader reflection on the socio-economic contributions of women.
