Russian Strikes Plunge Chernihiv into Darkness
A Russian bombardment targeted energy infrastructure in Ukraine's Chernihiv region, causing widespread power outages. Repairs are stalled because of drone threats, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The attacks aim to deprive residents of power and heat as winter approaches, according to local authorities and the energy ministry.

A Russian bombardment has severely impacted energy infrastructure in northern Ukraine's Chernihiv region, leaving hundreds of thousands without power. According to Ukraine's energy ministry, ongoing drone threats have obstructed repair efforts.
The city of Chernihiv, which boasted a pre-war population of roughly 280,000, and its surrounding areas have been plunged into darkness due to persistent Russian drone and missile attacks targeting power facilities. These attacks have resulted in frequent blackouts and significant disruptions to daily life.
The ministry alleged deliberate prolongation of the humanitarian crisis by Russian forces, who have reportedly used drones to monitor damaged infrastructure and prevent essential repairs. Chernihiv's acting mayor, Oleksandr Lomako, has stated that Moscow's actions are intended to deprive residents of power and heat ahead of the approaching winter.
