Post-Mortem of IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar to Proceed Amid Assurances of Transparent Probe

The family of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, reportedly having died by suicide at his official residence in Sector 24, Chandigarh, on October 7, has consented to a post-mortem following assurances from authorities of a fair investigation.

IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, his wife, stated, 'Following the assurance from the UT Police and the commitment from the Government of Haryana for a fair process, I have agreed to the post-mortem of Y Puran Kumar, IPS.' The examination is to be conducted by a board of doctors with a ballistic expert present, under the supervision of a magistrate with videography to ensure transparency.

Previously, a Chandigarh court directed Kumar's wife to file a reply regarding the post-mortem examination of her husband's body. Judicial Magistrate First Class Raminder Kaul issued the directive on October 14, coinciding with the registration of FIR No. 156, addressing sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Meanwhile, the SIT formed to investigate his demise is actively pursuing the case.
