Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has initiated legal action to block the release of the ZEE5 docu-series 'Lawrence of Punjab', arguing that it glorifies gangster culture and could negatively influence youth. The series, set to premiere on April 27, explores the life of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who faces numerous criminal charges and has been identified by Canada's government as a terrorist entity.
Warring expressed his concerns about the portrayal of criminal figures as heroes, emphasizing the potential danger it poses to society. He contends that the series insults the heritage of Punjab, a region rooted in diverse cultural and spiritual traditions, by associating it with criminal activity.
In his legal notice, Warring demands the suspension or deferment of the series' release, citing the glorification of crime as a criminal act. Similarly, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Arshdeep Singh Kler has opposed the series, suggesting it tarnishes Punjab's image internationally.
