In Madhya Pradesh, the traditional 'itra' perfume industry is reeling from the repercussions of the conflict in West Asia. Cancellations of large export orders have caused a considerable buildup of stock, placing exporters on edge as the typical surge in demand during Ramadan nears.
Syed Mohammad Altmash Jalal of the House of Hairat Perfumes expressed concern, highlighting the rising costs of glass bottles, a crucial component in the perfume business. These bottles, primarily sourced from Gujarat, face supply challenges due to disruptions in LPG availability, which powers the manufacturing factories.
The depreciating rupee against the US dollar further exacerbates the situation, increasing raw material costs for exporters like Abdul Mughis Faruqui of startup 'Orrisca'. Industry voices like Shailendra Pathak fear a raw material shortage if disruptions persist, potentially hindering new product launches and further impacting business.
