Jitish Kallat, a renowned contemporary artist, has been named the president of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Announced by Dr. Venu V, the Kochi Biennale Foundation chairperson, Kallat will be entrusted with leading the selection of the next curator, a role previously held by Bose Krishnamachari.
Kallat, who resides in Mumbai and is a board member of the Kochi Biennale Foundation, brings a wealth of experience to the position. He previously curated the biennale's 2014-15 edition, 'Whorled Explorations,' and is known for his projects exploring science, historical memory, and existential themes.
This leadership change occurs as the biennale, which was initiated in 2012, continues to grow, showcasing works from 66 artists across 22 venues in its sixth edition. The current edition, curated by Nikhil Chopra, will run until March 31, emphasizing the ongoing expansion and international appeal of the event.
