Crescent Moon Heralds Onset of Sacred Ramzan Fasts in India

The holy month of Ramzan is set to commence in India as the crescent moon was sighted on Wednesday, marking the start of fasting on Thursday. This annual observance involves Muslims across the nation fasting from dawn to dusk for the next 30 days.

Prominent figures, such as Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri mosque Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed and Naib Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Shaban Bukhari, officially announced the moon sighting, signaling the start of Ramadan. During this holy period, Muslims participate in special night prayers called Taraweeh at mosques, where the entire Quran is recited.

Community leaders, including Mufti Mukarram, are calling for increased prayers for the well-being of India's 140 crore population during these sacred days. This spiritual tradition encourages reflection, community, and goodwill, emphasizing the importance of ceremonial observance and prayer.
