Prominent Buddhist monk Bhante A.B. Gyaneshwar died in Lucknow’s Medanta Hospital on Friday morning at the age of 90. Known for his profound impact on Buddhism in Kushinagar, Bhante Gyaneshwar had been battling a prolonged illness for which he was admitted 20 days prior.
His body will be placed at Burma Buddha Vihar in Kushinagar for public homage until November 10, followed by final rites according to Buddhist customs. As the president of the Kushinagar Bhikshu Sangh and head of the Myanmar Buddha Vihar, he was celebrated as the first Indian to receive Myanmar's highest religious title.
Figures like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP president Mayawati expressed deep condolences, commending his dedication to Buddhism and humanitarian causes.
