In a gesture of philanthropy, the Assam government has decided to allocate its share of GST from the upcoming Assamese film 'Roi Roi Binale', the last cinematic endeavor of renowned artist Zubeen Garg, to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation. This foundation, initiated by Garg, focuses on aiding the underprivileged through medical support, flood victim assistance, and educational aid for needy students. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision at a press conference following a cabinet meeting.
The Chief Minister stated that although there is no entertainment tax on films in Assam, the state's portion of the GST from the film will be used to further charitable causes. The decision received consent from Garg's wife and reflects the state's commitment to community welfare. The contribution will provide necessary assistance in areas like anti-erosion and embankment work through an Asian Development Bank-assisted project.
Additionally, the cabinet has taken steps to ensure the protection of land rights for the Moran and Matak communities, aligning their settlements with tribal lands under Mission Basundhara 2.0. This decision further extends the government's initiatives to support and empower various communities within the state.
