In an unprecedented move to fortify ancestral bonds, the Nyishi community of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam's Mising community have formalized their relationship through a pioneering 'Treaty of Friendship' signed on Wednesday. This historic agreement seeks to deepen cultural connections and promote mutual cooperation.
The treaty, endorsed by the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and the Mising Ba:Ne Kebang (MBK), recognizes their shared ancestry traced to Abo Tani and aims to strengthen bilateral ties by acknowledging cultural homogeneity. It was emphasized that these historical ties continue to inform contemporary engagements, warranting preservation for future generations.
This comprehensive document outlines 11 key points, including mutual respect, cultural collaboration, and a coordination committee for dispute resolution. Effective immediately, the treaty is set to last until October 2040, with provisions for withdrawal with advance notice. Signatories include leaders from both communities, committed to working collaboratively on social, political, and economic issues.
