Paul Kapur, an esteemed Indian-American author and security expert, has officially taken on the role of Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State. The announcement was made by the Bureau through a social media post late Wednesday night.
Welcomed by the State Department, Dr. Kapur will lead America's diplomatic outreach and strategic partnerships across a vast region, including India, Nepal, Pakistan, and several Central Asian countries. He replaces Donald Lu, who held the position since 2021.
Kapur, who was born in New Delhi, carries an impressive academic and strategic portfolio. He served as a National Security Affairs professor and was previously part of the Policy Planning Staff at the State Department, focusing on South Asia and Indo-Pacific strategies. Kapur's scholarly work includes significant contributions on regional security and nuclear proliferation.
